Creating a Hospital Passport

You will have to see many doctors and nurses, which can overload you with information and may make you feel even more anxious. They may not be aware of any other conditions you might have. Creating a hospital passport is a great way to keep your mind at ease and has many benefits.

They include:

  • Explains any other conditions you might have
  • A place to keep appointment information
  • Any questions you may have
  • When you're not feeling well enough to speak
  • Keep track of any side effects you might be experiencing

I came up with the idea of a hospital passport, due to my selective mutism, anxiety and needle phobia. I saw many different doctors, who would know little about selective mutism, or how to approach the situation, which made some situations worse. In my passport it would explain what can make my anxiety worse and how to approach particular things. But most importantly explained my selective mutism, which is something most people don't know about. This passport gave me a voice and I am hoping this technique will help anyone else who is struggling.

How I planned out my passport:

About my condition  Explains my selective mutism and needle phobia.
What helps during treatment
What helps to keep my anxiety low.
How to communicate with me
Face to face and other ways of communication.
